Advanced Treatment Units (ATUs) are designed to act as a miniature sewage plant for your home. These systems are a relatively new, economical, and dependable solution for the on-site treatment and disposal of waste water. They make it possible for homeowners to have a septic system on their property even if they have very little topsoil to work with.
At Aztec Excavation and Septic, we install ATUs for residential clients throughout San Diego and Riverside counties. Unlike typical septic systems (or, "decentralized waste water treatment facilities") which rely on gravity, the three-chamber system of an ATU uses a treatment compartment in the tank to oxygenate and aerate liquid effluent to the point where it can be pumped into the top one foot of soil. As a result, the pressurized drip system allows users to install leaching systems in shallow soil, in clay-based soil, on a hillside, or over a rock foundation that typically couldn't support a traditional septic tank system.
